Game Over

..is the name i've settled on for my next GSR release. 6 tracks for it, mainly of material I intended to use on my next album. But, that can wait!

This should hopefully be out soon, depending on GSR. Tracks that will appear on here (but not nessasarily in this order):

1Up
8Bit
Game Over
In The Room
Over 9000
The Taste of Flesh

Cheers,

Dark.

Hmm...

... Looks like the blog competition didn't take off, unfortauntely.

Oh well.

Just a quick update today, I'm now back onto working on material for my next untitled album for Phantom Records. I am also nearly ready to release "Over 9000", which is the first single for my as-of-yet unnamed 2011 album.

Also, I've uploaded a new track to Soundcloud, which is a more recent project with "Sounds Like Johnny Depp", one of my most respected music contacts and an inspiration: Here is a "Collaborative" effort of ours, which is really a rework of an old remix :) Enjoy:

Dark DJ's Blog Competition!

Photobucket

After quite a bit of Thought, I have decided to run a little competition. Purely for fun, to see if I can benefit from running this sort of thing regularly.

It's quite simple really, folks. Just name the releases that these tracks appear on, from my own discography. I'll run it by points, every correct answer gets you two points, while answering the Bonus Questions will get you 4 points apiece. The tracks are as below:

1. Project Vahn
2. Phantomile
3. Uneasy Feeling
4. Asphalt Assault
5. WipeOut
6. Dry Ice
7. Manual
8. RePsyco Take Two
9. The Egg
10. Dahkras

And the Bonus Questions:

What is the name of my "Missing" album, of which I half finished, then accidently deleted? (I know that some fans know this one ;) )

How many alter ego's do I currently have? And can you name them too?

Whoever gets the most points (of a total of 28) will recieve a promotional copy of my track "Over 9000", which will be released next year at somepoint to the public.

Simply comment on this post with your answers, and I will calculate who is the winner on the 1st November 2010.

Then, I will need said winner's email address so that I can give them their prize. For fans on Facebook, comment on the wall with your answers. For members of The Daft Club, Private Message me your answers.

I may run a simmilar competition in the future, so don't worry if you don;t win this time! Cheers, and good luck to all who wish to enter. Remember, it's mainly for fun ;)

Go Outside EP - Coming Soon

Well, when I find a label that wants to release it, that is. I'm planning on getting this EP out on either Tune In Records or Get Some! Records, as i'm already working on enough material for Phantom Records! Below are links to the tracks:

Go Outside by Dark DJ

Go Outside Again by Dark DJ

Failed by Dark DJ

After finding the original version of the track once more, which was always my favourite version, I will be commissioning an EP with this track included. I am adding a new remade version of the original ("Go Outside Again", previously "Go Outside 2010") to go with it, and as a bonus, one of my other unreleased tracks ("Failed") will make it's way onto the EP soon.

Cheers,

Dark.

Dark DJ - 9

So, everyone, my debut EP for "Phantom Records", "9", has finally been released, and it's on iTunes!

I'm now sure how iTunes works, but it'd be lovely to see the UK prices, instead of the US dollars!

This EP includes 5 tracks, all written, produced and recorded by myself. I am extremely proud of this release, seeing as have been dying to release it for over 4 months! Below is the EP tracklist for "9":

01 "9" 11:14
02 "Semi Professional" 5:27
03 "The Egg" 6:09
04 "Trapped" 5:00
05 "Vex" 7:07

I really hope that some of my readers will have a look at this EP, and support myself and Phantom Records as we evolve!

Cheers,

Dark.

Updates: 1st September 2010

Hmm, have not written here for a while!

Well, basically, news is that my debut release for Phantom Records, "9" will be avaliable for purchase from itunes etc from the 9th September, hopefully.

Other news includes work for my next full album, some remixes are also in the works, and i'm officially addicted to Kuju's "Railworks" :P

More from me soon,

Dark.

11/08/2010

Updates: 11th August 2010

After several changed decisions, I finally have a good idea of what I will be producing in the next year:

"Untitled Album" (W.I.P Name) for Phantom Records. Two tracks done so far. Scheduled for release next year.

"Remakes" for Get Some! Records, should be done by this winter.

For "Get Some! Records" , I am also hoping to add some more albums to the Distro section soon. So far, I am waiting for my "Darkness" era releases to be added, but would also like to add my "Remixes" series to that page. This includes the following.

"Test Remixes" definitely needs to be added to the distro page, as I originally wanted it released on the label some time ago, but this did not come to fruitation.

The official "Remixes" series, Including:

Remixes: Volume One
Remixes: Volume Two
Remixes: Volume Three
Remixes: Volume Four

V4 is still in production currently.

This is my action plan for the next year currently, I hope I don't change my mind again anytime soon!!!

Musical Pick of the Week - Needs More Bass (Thomas En Masse Remix)

Well, I'm not sure if anyone really remembers the remixes, or the actual track, "Needs More Bass". It appears on my 2009 concept album "Darkness", and had it's own pre-release single with several remixes of the original on there.

One of my favourite remixes on there was actually done by myself. (actually, all the remixes bar the DJ GODS remix were done by myself :D ) The one i'm showing off this week (again) is the "Thomas En Masse" remix, when that project was still in it's "Techno" stages, though now it has transformed into my french/sampled house project.

The remix itself, I think, has alot more going on than in the original, so big wins all around. I hope you lot enjoy it too. Though I must point out that the single/ep is about to be re-released on "Get Some! Records" so i'll do a massive post on the single, and the other re-releases, probably next week now.

Dark.

100th Post

Finally! My 100th post on this blog! :)

And it comes with a bit of a revision to my latest updates. I've narrowed down my new music projects to just a few items:

For Phantom Record's newly formed project, "Phantom Anthems", I have decided to pull the "Go Outside" ep, and use said track for this project. I'm going to go over the track once more and tweak it to see if it can be improved before finalising it.

Also for Phantom Records, I have begun work on my next full release. This is as of yet unnamed, but i am planning to reelase 2 pre release and 2 post release singles with this.

For the label that I am co-CEO of, "Get Some! Records", I am putting together a "Remakes" album, which will consist of remakes and remixes of some of my older tracks, such as "Abomination" and "Asphalt Assault".

As a final note, I thought i'd add this little example of how I can sometimes integrate my hobbys:

Photobucket

Firstly, apologies for the rubbishness of the picture, I have uploaded another one on my Photobucket account if you want to have a better look.

This is a reskin of a steam locomotive for MSTS, which is operating on my fictional company "Dark Railways". See the link already? It is also named "Gammacords", a reference to one of the creepiest tracks I ever made.

The railways link goes even further too, because some of my tracks on 2010 are named after steam locomotives ("257 Squadron", "Tangmere" and Bellerophon" being prominent examples.)

Until laters,
Dark.

Updates: 9th July 2010

So, here is a short list of the projects I am currently planning, working on, or waiting to be released:

9 - To be released soon on "Phantom Records".

257 Squadron - Final single from the album "2010", to be released soon on "Get Some! Records".

Juniper Rocks - Collaborative effort with "Matthew Riley", to be released soon on "Get Some! Records".

Remakes 2010 - A short collection of remade tracks that I either wanted to improve or change. This includes "2010" versions of some of my older tracks, and some newer ones too. Consider them remakes, remixes, etc.

Untitled Album 2011 - Unnamed as of right now, but I am currently planning this album. It will most likely be a mixture of styles, but will be predominantly progressive electronica. Two tracks have been created for this so far, one unnamed and the other called "Go Outside".

Oblivion Live Set - This is the working title for a live mix set I will be working on soon, which will hopefully be utilised for playing live sets with "Phantom Records" and "Get Some! Records" if they ever organise a world tour, or something along those lines.

Cheers,

Dark.

Dark DJ Costume Idea

Below is a fairly rubbish drawing (done on MS Paint!) of my "Dark DJ" costume Idea, mainly for live shows with Phantom Records and Get Some! Records, if I ever get to perform one properly!

Photobucket

It basically outlines the following:

A Halloween Mask, which is actually a halloween mask, of which I will be modifying when I get some spare ones.

My fairly large black Coat. 'Cos it looks cool.

Fingerless Gloves for making teh musics.

Headphones to hear teh musics.

Jeans and a top, just because that's what I iconically wear.

Deck shoes, because they're comfy.

That's about it for tonight I think...

Cheers,

Dark.

For Lack of a Better Post...

Photobucket

Hey all!

I apologise for the lack of posts lately, but I have not really been very productive over the last few weeks. This is mainly due to the fact that I am still waiting for two releases to actually be released on Get Some! Records. For those who are interested, these are the "257 Squadron" single and the "Juniper Rocks" Collaboration EP with Matthew Riley. Hopefully, these should be out soon, so that I can write about them and move onto my next projects...

I have, however, entered a remix competition, for "Aufgang" and their track, "Dulceria". I know it won't win, and isn't the best I have ever done, but do please have a listen and tell me what you think. You may also notice that I have now got a Fairtilizer account, as the competition states that you need one of these. It could come in useful for track hosting, as demonstrated below...

Cheers,

Dark.

P.S. I'm slightly drunk while writing this. Sorry.

A Bit of an Update

Basically, this is what's going down this summer:

1. My "French Stuff" project (as "Thomas En Masse") will be completed within the next few weeks, me thinks. This depends if I can find some good samples. I'm thinking of having about 3-5 tracks on this one.

2. Hopefully, my debut EP release ("9") on "Phantom Records" (headed up by DJ Waybig and Beatrage) will be out very soon. I will post about this in more depth when released.

3. Seeing the release of the final single from "2010" on Get Some! Records, "257 Squadron".

4. Starting some material for my debut album on "Phantom Records". This is currently unnamed, and has an undefined genre, but may be a mix of styles, plus im gonna do some vocals for this one!

5. Beginning to look seriously into crafting my "Oblivion" live set, which I am going to be building and utilising for use on a "Phantom Records" tour in the near future. Some people may have seen and noticed that I have created some demos for the set, but i've decided to start again to include some new ideas. More information soon.

6. Something slightly less musical is my "Costume" that i'm going to be making. Well, ok, it isn't a costume in the literal sence, but i'll show everyone what I mean in the next few weeks.

That's about it from me right now. Peace out, yo.

Dark

PS! I forgot to mention the "Juniper Rocks" EP will be out soon, which is a collaborative effort with "Matthew Riley".

French Stuff

Let's all have a hearty celebration to mark the return of my alter ego "Thomas En Masse!

Photobucket

After using the alias to dabble with Techno style tracks, I've decided that it would probably make sence to shift my sample/ french house projects under this alter ego, due to the french sounding name.

To show you what sort of songs "Thomas En Masse" will be producing, here is an edit of the title track for my next EP as TEM, titled "French Stuff":

Dark DJ - All That You See And Do is Fake

All That You See And Do Is Fake by Dark DJ

This is a remix of a remix, if that makes sence?

It is basically a reworking of my "Untitled Track" remix for Matthew Riley. Except it's different. Alot more effects, better mastering and some vocals!

This is slated to appear on Matthew Riley's next release: "Flash/Untitled Track EP".

Matthew Riley on Soundcloud, if you want to hear more of his stuff :)

Cool Thing of the Week: Dan's Dive

I have decided to do a brave and bold thing for such a small, specialist blog.

I'm gonna post some random stuff that I like, in the hope that others will to. This will obviously include some random Youtube videos, pictures and websites that I find interesting, amusing or cool, hence the title of the post. I hope whoever reads the blog will enjoy this crap too. :)

This week: One of my videos of my best mate diving into the sea.

Warning! Does contain some mild language, mild peril and, most importantly, mild swimming).

Dark DJ - Uneasy Feeling / Victory Theme

These two tracks will form part of the game I am scoring, "Josh The Master Of Gohn 3". I am scoring the entire game, but these are the only new compositions I have done, as the rest of the tracks have appeared on my past releases.

Dark.

01/05/2010

Update on "9"

There has been a slight change of plan with my next EP, "9". Instead of one release, there will now be two releases.

The first, which is my debut release on "Phantom Records", will only have material created by me (5 track EP). This will be the "9" EP. I feel that, as a debut, it should contain all of my own material.

The second release to do with "9" will be a remix album, simmilar to my old "Test Remixes". It will hopefully contain alot of remixes of the tracks from "9", and should also be released on Phantom Records as a follow up to the original.

I hope that all involved understand and are happy with my decisions. I feel that it is fairer to have a remix album because, if iwere to have remixes on the EP, I would have to be very selective over which ones I use. This way, your work is not being discarded.

Thanks for reading,

Dark.

Updates: 2nd April 2010

Sorry for the lack of posts of late. But this is a quick update with what's going on in my life right now:

"Oblivion 2010" is indeed on it's way. Been doing some demo mixes, but still can't figure out how to begin. Gammacords? The intro from Land's End? "Dawn/Dusk?".

I'm not 100% right now. All I know is that "Monster" and "Windfarms" will have to feature together on this one.

"Tangmere" remixes seem very scarce at the moment, so I might end up going ahead with the three remixes I have. These are the "Tokyo Bass" remix, the "Earlgrey" tribal mix and the "Matthew Riley" remix, also including the sampled B-Side "34067". This should be completed in a few weeks.

The "2010" Remixes album will be more or less cancelled I think, due to lack of interest. I'll wait and see if I get anymore responses, but this seems unlikely.

Thats about it for now chaps.

Dark DJ - Tune In EP

Photobucket

Photobucket

This is my latest release, which has bee created for "Tune In Records" as an exclusive. It is mainly demo material, with some differing techniques in the mastering of some tracks.

"Tune In" has a dreamy but strong introduction, with the vocal "Tune into Tune In" repeated and heavily distorted. The rest of the track has an 8-bit tribal feel to it, with a heavy rave synth coming in halfway through the track.

"The Hania Experiment" is possibly the strangest track on this EP, with an oscillating pitch synth and bells. Again, this one has some 8-bit synth style to it, but with some serious percussion and bass.

"Down Down" has minimal variation, but a catchy main riff. I have tried to replicate some "Deadmau5" elements with this track , Such as the reverb and filters. This one, I feel, is a little like marmite, you either love it or...

My personal favourite on this EP is the last track, slightly self-titled "Dark's Groove". Again, there is minimal variation between the synth patterns, but there are plenty of nice effects that keep it fresh and entertaining. The addictive bassline, laidback style and breaks make this one a rather pleasant listen.

Dark DJ: Remixes: Volume Three

Photobucket

Here it is, my latest collection of remixes of various artists that I like.

I guess top picks on this remix album are my "Soma" remix, which I think is faithful to the original and the style of Deadmau5 with regards to synths. Also worthy of note is my "Thinkin Bout U" remix, with which the original artist was impressed with!

Anyways, I hope you enjoy this latest collection of covers, edits and remixes!

2010 Remixes

So i've taken some advice and decided to do a remix album for "2010"...

Basically, I will need remixes of each track on the album, from "Craptastic" right through to "True Fax". Only the best/most interesting will make it onto the album!

Basically, the rules are to contact me (either email if you have me or ask for it, commenting this post, or through any of the links on the side of the blog) and ask for the sample pack of your choice.

Once you have recieved the pack, and remixed the song, send it back to me privately and I will have a listen and get back to you as soon as possible.

Each remix has to be at 320kbps, but I can convert it if needs be. All remixes have to be done by the 16th May 2010.

Sorry if this post seems rushed or awkwardly written, But i've got alot of things to do right now, and have to finish another post. I hope to get some responses to this post, and would love to hear some remixes soon.

One last thing I Must admit though, I already have an Ace remix of "257 Squadron" that will more than likely be featured, and "Tangmere" remixes will be used for it's respective single, so plase ask for tracks other than these.

Dark.

08/03/2010

Tangmere Single: Remixes Needed

So I finally decided to scrap "257 Squadron" as a single, but instead concentrate on the other Battle of Britain locomotive on the album, "Tangmere".

This is mainly because, in many respects, this song is alot better than 257. And it could potentially be a classic! So, ill be asking around to see if I can rely on some remixes of this track.

If any readers would like to have a stab at "Tangmere", please feel free to leave a comment or contact me or something for the sample packs...

Cheers,

Dark.

2010 Review

First things first, some alternative artwork for the album, for anyone who didn't like the original:

Photobucket

Main post:

My good friend Niteshade has finally done the review of "2010" I asked him for, and I must say I am myself impressed and surprised by his track by track review.

If you have'nt read it yet, here is the"2010" Review by "Niteshade" on Ilictronix

My own reactions? Very very impressive. As the artist, I obviously believe everythin I make is perfect! Haha, seriously, Im surprised that "Monster" scored the least, followed by "257 Squadron". But 7's arent too bad are they?

I'm extremely pleased with his views on "Tangmere", "Why Should I?", "Don't Care" and "Bellerophon", because these are the tracks I feel I worked on the most. And between you and me, these are definitely the standouts of the album, so one of two may get a single!

Artwork seems to have been negatively seen by some fellow bloggers, but at the end of the day, it is my album and my own artwork, so I am happy with them. Yes, they could be more exciting, but I do prefer my releases having my own simplistic imprint to them. In any case, I have made some alternative art, at the top of this post.

So yes, a very good review, I'm very happy that it got recognised, and I hope to see some more views on the album soon!(and hopefully some new fans!)

Cheers,

Dark.

DJ Waybig - Thinkin Bout U (Dark DJ Remix) by Dark DJ

Remixes & A Demo

Three new-ish things to show. Aside from "2010", i've been working to add some more material to the next volume of my "Remixes" series. Well, I have finished two more remixes for it this month, Namely, "Steam Machine" by Daft Punk" and "Symphony No. 909" by "Sebon":

Daft Punk - Steam Machine (Dark DJ Remix)

Sebon - Symphony No. 909 (Dark DJ Remix)

And I have also been working on a demo track, for fun, titled "Cock O' The North". This is because the track samples several steam sounds from a game, and is a tribute to the locomotive of the same name, a P2 class mikado built for use on the LNER.

Dark DJ - Cock O' The North

Remember that you heard them here first!

Just a quick reminder that "2010" will be avaliable to download on the 28th February on "Get Some! Records", as well as being avaliable to download as usual through "Dark Trax" on Mediafire.

I Can't be bothered to write much more today, because my arm hurts. =/

Starstriker & 2010 Album Update

This is just another random track created out of the boring, cold winter nights. It's rather poor, so I apologise

On an official update, my "2010" album has been finalised, mixed, uploaded and locked, whilst the manager of "Get Some! Records" organises my release proporly. This, I am hoping, will be out at somepoint this month, or next.

Ig anybody is interested in GSR, check out the Get Some! Records Website

RePsyco Take Two

Yet another track created out of boredom, this is a re-working of a very old track I began a couple of months ago called "RePsyco". It sounded simmilar to this, but did not have the heavy bass drum and the underlying synth, or the change of speed.

Note, this is not part of my "2010" album, but will instead appear as a bonus track on my "Remixes: Volume Three" Compilation. Sorry about the poor quality, if anyone wants a HQ MP3, please comment.

True Fax & Monster

To Welcome the new year in, I have decided to upload two singles for download.

They are both promotional singles from my upcoming album, Appropriately named "2010".

The first is "True Fax", which you may have seen posted here before. The Youtube videos have been posted before, but not download links. This is because I was still trying to figure out a tracklist, which fortunately I have now completed.

Photobucket

Dark DJ - True Fax (Download)

Tracklist:

01 True Fax (Edit Version)

02 True Fax (Advanced Remix)

03 True Fax (Thomas En Masse's "Faxed Out" Mix)

The other release is one that I enjoyed making greatly. My idea for "Monster" came when I attempted to make a Dirty Electro remix of Deadmau5's "Faxing Berlin". Instead, this has morphed into the "Original" mix of Monster.

I love this version, but wanted to make the track more my own (I.E without the sample), so I ended up crafting a whopping Eleven minute mix! This is the full version, which will be on my personal, Unmixed copy of "2010". Instead, for this single, I have made a shorter edit version which compresses Eleven Minutes into Four!

The last track is called "Those Things" and was actually the first track I Intended to have on "2010". Unfortunately, as I have created more tracks for the album, "Those Things" doesn't seem to flow with the others. Because it has a "Scary" theme to it, I have decided it would probaby be more suited for this release!
